TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- After more than three decades of service, the chief of the Troy Fire Department is retiring. Chief Eric McMahon first began working for the fire department in September 1989. EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An East Greenbush man is retiring after more than 40 years with Freihofer's. William Fischer first started driving a Freihofer's truck in September 1980. EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - The interim director of the East St. Louis Housing Authority was dismissed in the wake of inappropriate spending of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Several lawsuit enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are now investigating. There’s also an effort to oust the Housing Commissioner Chairwoman who blew the whistle on this deal. This all started when allegations surfaced of excessive change orders worth thousands of dollars. ST. ANN, Mo. - What began as an investigation into a car theft from the Menard’s parking lot in St. Ann on Thursday, ended later that night with a juvenile suspect taken into custody. St. Ann police say a 14-year-old was hiding in a trash can near the Pear Tree Apartments and was in possession of a firearm stolen from Ferguson. “Juvenile delinquency is a huge problem,” said Lt. Blake Carrigan, St. Ann Police Department. Earlier in the week, just a few municipalities south, Ladue police investigated an attempted carjacking involving a vehicle driven by a mother and her infant. ST. LOUIS - There are some big closures coming to the downtown St. Louis area this weekend, beginning Friday evening. “It’s really important that we get these closures done in a dense time period, so it doesn't impact the traveling public,” Jen Wade with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, MoDOT will be closing the stretch of Interstate 44 and 55 from 7th St. and Park Ave. to Interstate 64 in downtown. It will be closed into Saturday afternoon. A Westwood man was sentenced to prison for stealing over $5 million from victims in a surety bond scam, officials announced Friday.Tommy Lester Watts, 64, was sentenced to 110 months in prison for stealing over $5 million from victims by “purporting to sell bonds for large-scale construction and other projects, and for evading the payment of more than $1.2 million in taxes.”He also was ordered to pay $8,995,879 in restitution.Watts pleaded guilty on Feb. 16 to one count of transactional money laundering and one count of tax evasion, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Watts also went by the names “Michael Nesbeth,” “Michael Kent,” and “Alex Mason.”From Sept. 2016 to Sept. 2019, officials said Watts falsely claimed to be experienced in providing surety bonds and other financial guarantees for large-scale projects.
