Gophers paid Lindsay Whalen a ‘termination fee’ of $215K

Lindsay Whalen was fired from her position as the University of Minnesota’s basketball coach and no longer works for the school, according to a settlement report obtained by the Pioneer Press.Whalen declined the offer to work as a special assistant to athletics director Mark Coyle and has received a one-time, lump sum settlement payment of $215,000.Coyle announced during a March 2 news conference that Whalen, a former UMN all-American and four-time WNBA champion with the Lynx, had stepped down after five years as the Gophers’ coach. Whalen did not attend the news conference and hasn’t spoken publicly since.“Together,” Coyle said at the time, “we just felt like now is the right time for her to step down.”We now know that wasn’t the case. PLATTEKILL, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Jacksonville man was arrested on Tuesday and is charged with second-degree murder stemming from a homicide investigation dating back to January 1. Juwaugh Dawkins, 31, is also charged with three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Daniel Spotards. Police say Spotards was located outside of his house with multiple gunshot wounds. LOUIS – Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department have identified a man found shot to death in a park across the street from City Hall.According to a police spokesman, the shooting occurred on June 1, just before 9 p.m., inside Poelker Park.Officers located the victim down on the ground near the Firefighters Memorial in the park.
