BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union moved Wednesday to overhaul its euro single currency rulebook as the 27-nation bloc’s economies creak under high debt caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the fallout from Russia’s war on Ukraine.“Our common EU fiscal rules date back to the 1990s and we have since withstood major economic shocks,” European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said. “We now face different challenges and economic priorities, and our rules need to reflect these changes.”The central pillar of the overhaul, laid out by the commission, the EU’s executive branch, would see member countries design and present plans outlining their fiscal targets, measures they might use to address any imbalances and the main reforms and investment they aim to undertake.Key targets from the old Stability and Growth Pact will remain, even though the rules were essentially suspended in 2020 following the COVID-19 outbreak. JOLIET, Ill. — A man was shot inside a vehicle Tuesday night in Joliet.At around 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Draper Lane on the report of a person shot.At the scene, officers located a 48-year-old man who had been shot inside a vehicle.Police believe while the man was sitting in the driver's seat in the 900 block of Magnolia Avenue, an unknown gunman outside of the vehicle shot him.The man drove away and eventually crashed into a fence at the original scene on Draper Lane. AUSTIN (KXAN) — Expect a loud group singalong to "Mr. Brightside" at the Circuit of the Americas this fall, as The Killers will headline the first night at the Formula 1 Lenovo U.S. Grand Prix. A tweet Wednesday morning confirmed the band will take the Germania Insurance Super Stage on Oct. 20. Organizers also announced the act that will follow The Killers on Oct. 21 is Queen with Adam Lambert. Formula 1 tickets are now on sale through the COTA website. The event will last from Oct. 20-22 this year. A three-day general admission wristband comes with a cost of $475, according to the ticketing website, while a three-day parking pass is listed for up to $275. TRAVIS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- Travis County leaders will gather Wednesday morning to give the public an update on what they call a drug overdose public health crisis in the county, and discuss details from the county medical examiner's 2022 report, which has not yet been released.The update will cover the status of overdose deaths in the county from 2022, including those which were fentanyl-related, according to a release from the county.
