Warren County police crack down on distracted driving

WARREN COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - This week, the Warren County Sheriff's Department is taking part in a state effort to keep roads safe and combat distracted driving. The mantra: "U-Drive, U-Text, U-Pay." Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Roads around Warren County are getting additional scrutiny as part of the U-Drive, U-Text, U-Pay traffic safety initiative. From April 3-10, Warren County will be sending out high-visibility traffic patrols dedicated to catching and correcting instances of distracted driving, before they lead to tragedy.The department says that distracted driving has risen in prominence to become a leading contributor to traffic accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports 3,142 deaths and 424,000 injuries in car crashes involving distracted drivers in 2019. SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Schenectady Police are currently investigating a shots fired incident that took place around 5:09 a.m. on Sunday. Police say it appears no one was shot. They responded to Schenectady and Albany Streets where they found 14 shell casings. Through further investigation, police say they found a car that appeared to be hit by a bullet, as well as a house. ADAMS, Mass. (NEWS10) -- Miss Adams Diner, located at 53 Park Street in Adams, is reportedly closed until further notice. The announcement was made on the Miss Adams Diner Facebook page on March 31. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Association of Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling (NYSAR3) has announced the New York Recycles! poster contest to promote higher excellence in waste reduction. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade in New York State public and private schools, youth organizations, and home-schooled students are welcome to participate. LOUIS -- Many municipalities in the St. Louis area will be testing their tornado sirens today at 11 a.m. This is part of the regular tests that happen at 11 a.m. on the first Monday of the month.The tests will be happening in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County today. Jefferson County does not have a county-wide tornado siren system, but some cities do conduct monthly tests. A house in Mammoth Lakes was destroyed by an explosion Saturday — 10 days after a similar blast a mile away injured five people.The weekend’s blast happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Juniper Road, a loop of single-family homes near Mammoth Mountain ski resort’s Eagle Express lift. The house was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department said.The resulting fire and the snowmelt flooding caused by that fire prompted the evacuation of nearby residences, including condos at the Eagle Run complex.On March 22, an explosion caused the collapse of a building at the Val d’Isere Condominiums, near the Mammoth Village commercial area.
