Volkswagen recalls 140,000 SUVs due to faulty passenger-side airbags, owners told not to let anyone ride shotgun

Volkswagen is recalling 143,000 of its big Atlas SUVs in the US because a faulty sensor on the front passenger side can switch the airbag system off under certain conditions. Until the issue can be corrected, VW is advising owners to avoid letting people ride in that seat.The problem is “sporadic,” according to documents VW filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees vehicle recalls.Most modern passenger vehicles have weight sensors in the front seat to detect if someone small — like a child — is riding in that seat. ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — Deputies in Adams County were involved in a shooting with a suspect who allegedly shot and injured a woman at a nearby apartment. According to the Adams County Sheriff's Office, both east and westbound Highway 36 are closed from Federal Boulevard to Sheridan Boulevard due to a shooting investigation. ACSO told FOX31's Jim Hooley that deputies originally received a call for a gunshot victim at an apartment complex off Pecos. The female victim was transported to a local hospital where she is currently in intensive care. When deputies arrived on scene, the suspect drove by and deputies began to pursue the car. LONDON — More people affected by the U.K’s infected blood scandal should be entitled to compensation, its public inquiry has recommended.Dubbed the “worst treatment disaster in the NHS,” it has been estimated that thousands of people were infected with HIV and hepatitis from contaminated blood they received from the NHS between 1970 and 1991.Former Prime Minister Theresa May set up a public inquiry into the scandal in 2017, describing it as “an appalling tragedy which should simply never have happened.” In July, the inquiry’s chair Brian Langstaff, while continuing to hear evidence, recommended that victims should receive interim compensation of £100,000 until full settlements are agreed when the inquiry publishes its full report. The government made the first compensation payments in October, to around 4,000 surviving victims and widows.
